Tag Rugby

Yesterday in PE class, Simon from the IRFU took us for the whole class to teach us about tag rugby. We did rugby drills, like passing and then we did dynamic stretching and core stability exercises, which are important in case you pull as muscle during training/games. It is also extremly important for frequent rugby players as you are stronger and more likely to be able to endure a whole game at a good pace. At the end of the class we had a short game of tag rugby, and we learnt about some of the basic rules, like tagging and passing backwards and frees. He told us that now, girls are more encouraged to play rugby. I really enjoyed yesterdays PE class (:

Tag Rugby

Yesterday in PE we started playing tag rugby, at first we only did passing and working as a team as some people had never played tag rugby before in the class. The basic rules of tag rugby is that there are seven people on a team, made up of three girls and four boys. Each player has two tags and once someone takes a tag this counts as a tackle, only the person with the ball can be tagged. A try for a boy counts as one point and a try for a girl counts as three points .After a try is scored the game restarts from the centre of the field, with the team that hasn't scored starting with the ball. No forward passing is allowed and if this does happen the team that doesn't have the ball is given a free. I don't know of any leagues or teams set up near me. I think that team sports, such as tag rubgy are better than individual sports. Working as a team is more rewarding because you have people to celebrate with if you win, you can also rely on people during games whereas in individual sports you can't rely on anyone but yourself. I think the class yeaterday was very good, I learned lots about tag rugby and I am looking forward to playing games in the next class.

Fitness plan follow up

Fitness Programme Follow up
I found that I have started to do more exercise than I would have if I hadn’t made my fitness programme. It made me get out and do some exercise which is good and healthy. I have kept to most things on it, but I could probably do more this week like the swimming I said I would do on Thursdays for an hour, which I didn’t get around to. Hopefully all the exercise will improve my scores on the bleep test and other exercises we did in p.e for the next month when we test them out. I did find it harder than my usual exercise during the, but I think I could keep up with it. I think Sunday is a good day to relax so you’re ready to go again for the next week. In p.e class yesterday we did step aerobics which was for our cardio-vascular and muscular endurance. We took our heart rates at the beginning, during and at the end of the class. At the beginning I had a heart rate of 70 beats per minute and during the aerobics it was 120 beats. At the end of the lesson it had gone back down to 90 beats per minute.

Fitness Plan

My Fitness Plan
After doing a fitness module in PE I have decided to make a fitness plan.
Monday; football training for an hour and a half (Cardio-vascular and muscle endurance)
Tuesday; PE in school for a double class (70 minutes)
Wednesday; take a walk before after school before I do my homework (half an hour)
Thursday; go swimming after school (an hour)
Friday; football training for an hour and a half (Cardio-vascular and muscle endurance)
Saturday; take a walk in the middle of the day (half an hour)
Sunday; Day for rest / possibly football match.

I would like to improve on the bleep test and get a higher result than 4.4, and be able to do more press-ups the next time we test our muscle endurance.

Muscular endurance

Muscular Endurance and Strength
Muscular endurance – the ability for a person to exert itself for a long period of time. It is usually in aerobic and anaerobic exercise.
Strength – Physical strength also known as muscular strength is the ability of a person to exert force on physical objects using muscles.
Benefits of developing these areas of fitness; you will become more healthy as a result of the training, the risk of you getting an injury while exercising will decrease as a result and you will be able to compete in sports for longer as you will be more fit from developing these areas of fitness.
Yesterdays PE class; Yesterday in class we focused on developing our muscular endurance and strength. To do this we played basketball, this would involve using your triceps and biceps, your quads and your calves. We warmed up first by doing press-ups, sit-ups, passing, tricep dips and running. This was to warm up your muscles so they wouldn’t be sore the next day.

Flexibility

Flexibility & Yoga
For PE this week we did yoga to test out flexibility (yoga refers to traditional physical and mental discipline that originated in India) first we had to relax our bodies in order to carry out the yoga properly, and practice breathing correctly. We did different stretches in order to test our flexibility (the distance of motion of a joint, which may be increased by stretching) I think the yoga was a good way of relaxing the body after a day at school, and it would be a good way of waking yourself up and your muscles in the morning before school/work. I really enjoyed doing yoga as part of PE; I didn’t think it was too strenuous which was good.

New years resolution - 2011

New Year’s Resolution - 2011
For the year 2011 I think that I am going to try and go swimming more, maybe twice a week if possible. I did swimming last year but not as much as I would have liked to. Also, when football starts back in February, along with the one day a week training that we do as a team I will also try and do some training by myself to stay fit. To exercise during the weekend I will bring my dogs for a walk in the mornings. I will also try and participate more in P.E as part of my new year’s resolution.

My perception of PE

My Perception of P.E
I think that P.E is very beneficial in school for everybody involved. Its gives people a chance to get away from the classroom and have fun while exercising. I like it because it’s fun and healthy and people who won’t usually be involved in sport get a chance to be involved as a team. It allows to people to get to know each other better while working in a team or coming up with tactics or ideas. It also allows people to learn about leadership and organising groups/teams, and even though learning is involved it still has the aspect of enjoyment.
P.E usually meant basketball or football in my primary school which would generally only suit some people. However in secondary school we get a chance to participate in more sports and activates which is great. We can learn about different sports in other countries and have a chance to experience them. Sports Day in school is also P.E related and it is a great day which brings the whole school together through different events.
I do enjoy P.E in school and I think that it’s a very positive way of exercising, learning about being healthy and teamwork within the school.
